Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Stether ("we," "our," or "us") collects when you use the Stether mobile app (the "App"), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Stether is operated by Petter Bjørseth in Norway, who is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at the email address at the bottom of this page.

1. Information We Collect

Information you give us:

• Account information: Your email address and a user ID from our sign-in provider when you sign in with Google, Apple, or an email link. If you sign in with Google, we may also receive your name and profile picture. If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we only receive a relay address from Apple.
• Profile information: Your display name, username (tag), and profile picture.
• Birth date: Your date of birth, which you enter when you create your profile.
• Workout and fitness data: The workouts you log (exercises, sets, repetitions, weights, duration, and notes), the programs you create or follow, the statistics we calculate from them, and the bodyweight measurements you record.
• Content you post: Posts, photos, videos, and comments you share in the App, and the chat messages you send.
• Social information: The users you follow and who follow you, and the groups and gyms you create or join.
• Locations you choose: Places you pick on a map or search for, such as a gym's address or where a workout took place.
• Reports and blocks: When you report a post, comment, message, or user, we store what you reported, the reason you chose, anything you wrote, and a copy of the reported content. We also store the users you block.
• Feedback: Any feedback you send us through the App.

Information collected automatically:

• Notification identifiers: A push notification token and an app installation ID, so we can send notifications to your device.
• Device location, if you allow it: When you open the map of gyms near you, the App asks for permission to use your device's location. If you allow it, the App uses your location to center the map on where you are and sends it to our servers to find the gyms closest to you. We use it only to answer that request. We do not store your location, link it to your account, or use it in the background. You can turn location access off at any time in your device settings, and the map still works if you move it yourself.
• Server logs: Our servers and hosting providers record basic technical information about requests to our service, such as IP address, time of the request, and errors. We use this only to run the service and fix problems.

We do not use advertising or third-party analytics tools, and we do not track your device location. The App only uses your location while you look at the map of gyms near you, as described above. It only uses your camera, microphone, and photo library when you choose to take or upload photos or videos.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Create and manage your account and sign you in.
• Check that you are old enough to use the App (see "Children" below).
• Store your workouts and programs and calculate your progress and statistics.
• Provide the social features of the App, such as your profile, the feed, following, groups, and gyms.
• Show gyms near you on a map, if you allow the App to use your location.
• Send push notifications, for example about activity related to you. You can turn notifications off in your device settings.
• Review reports and enforce our Terms of Use, for example by removing content or disabling accounts that break them.
• Keep the App secure, fix problems, and improve it, including based on your feedback.
• Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data and do not use it for advertising.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

If you are in the EU/EEA or the UK, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:

• Contract: To provide the App and the features you use.
• Consent: For bodyweight and other fitness data that may be considered health data, and for push notifications. You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting the data, turning off notifications, or deleting your account.
• Legitimate interests: To keep the service secure, fix problems, improve the App, and keep our users safe by handling reports.
• Legal obligation: When the law requires us to keep or disclose information, and to check the age of our users.

4. What Other Users Can See

Stether is a social app. Some of your information is visible to other users. Your email address and birth date are never shown to other users.

• Your display name, username, and profile picture are visible to other users and can be found through search.
• Posts you publish, including photos and videos, can be seen by other users, such as your followers or members of the group or gym you post to.
• Your followers, the users you follow, and the groups and gyms you are a member of may be visible to others.
• You control in the App's settings whether your workout statistics are shared, for example with members of your groups and gyms.
• Chat messages are seen by the people in the chat: the other user in a direct chat, or the members of a group or gym.

If you block someone, you and they no longer see each other's profile, posts, comments, or messages. They are not told that you blocked them. Users you report are not told who reported them.

Do not post anything you don't want others to see.

5. Service Providers We Share Data With

We share personal data only with service providers that help us run the App. They process the data on our behalf and only as needed to provide their services:

• Apple: Sign in with Apple, if you use it.
• Google Firebase: Sign-in (Firebase Authentication), photo and video storage (Cloud Storage for Firebase), and push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging).
• Google Cloud: Hosting for our servers.
• Google Maps Platform: Showing maps and searching for places. Your search text is sent to Google to find matching places, and the map area you look at, which may be around your location, is sent to Google to load the map.
• MongoDB database hosting: Storing your account, workout, and social data.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or if it is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others.

6. International Data Transfers

Some of our service providers may process data outside the EU/EEA, for example in the United States. When they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

7. How Long We Keep Your Data, and Deleting Your Account

We keep your data for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account at any time in the App, under Settings, Account, Delete account. If you can't use the App, email us at the address at the bottom of this page from the email address of your account, and we will delete it within 30 days. When your account is deleted:

• Your account, profile, birth date, workouts, statistics, bodyweight measurements, program progress, notifications, and the exercises you created are deleted, and so is your sign-in account. If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke the App's access to your Apple ID.
• Posts, comments, and chat messages you published and programs you shared with others are kept, but are no longer linked to your name or profile.
• Reports you sent are kept for moderation, but are no longer linked to you. Reports about your content are kept as long as needed to keep our users safe.

Server logs and backups are kept only for a limited period and then deleted automatically.

Deleting some of your data. You don't have to delete your account to delete your data. In the App you can delete, at any time:

• Your posts and comments, from the menu on each of them.
• Your chat messages, by pressing and holding the message. The message is removed for everyone in the chat, who see that a message was deleted.
• Your workouts, bodyweight measurements, program progress, events you created, and the exercises you created.
• Your followers, whom you can remove from your profile.

Photos and videos in deleted posts, comments, and messages are deleted too. You can also change your profile picture and display name at any time. To have any other data deleted, email us at the address at the bottom of this page from the email address of your account, and tell us what you want deleted. We will delete it within 30 days, unless we must keep it, for example a report about your content that is needed to keep our users safe.

8. Security of Your Information

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. For example, all communication between the App and our servers is encrypted, and only signed-in users can access the service. No method of storing or sending data is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it.
• Correct inaccurate data.
• Delete your data. You can delete your account directly in the App.
• Restrict or object to certain processing.
• Receive your data in a portable format.
• Withdraw your consent at any time.

To use these rights, change your information in the App or contact us. If you are in the EU/EEA, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Norway, that is Datatilsynet (datatilsynet.no).

10. Children

The App is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. When you create a profile, we ask for your birth date. If you are under 13, you can't create a profile, and the sign-in account is deleted without saving any of your information. If the law in your country sets a higher age for consenting to data processing, you need permission from a parent or guardian to use the App. If you believe a child has given us personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last Updated" date above, and if the changes are significant, we will let you know in the App.
